What is Emotional Freedom Technique, EFT or tapping?

“Emotional acupuncture” is how the originator of EFT, Gary Craig, described it. Many people find it to be a powerful tool to deal with stress, feelings, limiting beliefs, conflicts, pain and trauma.

EFT is based on the notion that there is a subtle energy system in your body. This energy flows and is balanced in the channels or meridians, when you are in good mental and physical health.

Gary explained that, “The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system.” Stress, everyday trauma, major trauma and limiting beliefs disrupt your energy system. Clear out the stress, trauma and limiting beliefs, so you feel better and function at a higher level.

Focus on your stress, rate the intensity of your distressing feeling(s), add a self-accepting statement and gently tap (no needles) on 11 meridian points to release and clear your distress. Instill a choice, result or change you want about the issue to fill the void left by the release of your stress.

A brief example of the basic recipe gives you a very brief idea of what tapping is.

Setup statement:

Even though I am very stressed at work by unrealistic deadlines, as much as I am able, I deeply and completely love and accept myself with this problem.

Location: tightness in my chest. Intensity of 8 (on a scale of zero to ten).

Tap several rounds until the intensity diminishes to at least a 3.

Create and instill a choice statement:

I choose to breathe deeply, be calm and confident that I do my best to work as quickly as posible.

True: __________ (zero to ten)

Tap several more rounds.
