Why Do You Need a Personal Coach?

You are already a successful person. You have strengths, education and knowledge, emotional and psychological resources that have contributed to you accomplishments and achievements.

Now you want to move to the next level and be more successful in your work, professional life, in your personal life or in your favorite sport. A life coach or personal coach is like a trainer who helps you get over any blocks or barriers that hold you back.

In other cases some life event, some change in your life or some unusual circumstances have presented you with some challenges, stress or anxiety that are slowing you down. You can probably muddle through, but utilizing a coach makes easier and faster to master those challenges.

What Happens in Coaching?

We will discuss your goals, what you want to change and exactly what results you want to get from the coaching experience. If you are not clear, part of my job is to listen with an educated ear and help you get clear on the outcomes you want.

  • What is the specific focus of your stress, anxiety and lack of confidence?
  • How will you know when you do have confidence and your stress is gone?
  • What specifically will be different?
  • What will confidence feel like? Sound like? Look like for you?

I will ask questions about your background and get to know you. You need a safe place to discuss your stress and anxieties, the negative and hidden beliefs that hold you back from being the confident person you want to be.

I utilize EMDR, EFT and guided imagery to eliminate the stress and anxiety that is  holding you back. You get specific, useful feedback and suggestions that move you toward being more successful. I teach you to become accountable to yourself by holding you accountable to take the actions that move you toward your goals.

To gain self-confidence you learn to trust your self. To trust yourself you learning to understand your fears, face your fears, use your fears and then overcome your fears with smart strategies.  These also reduce your stress level.

Is Personal Coaching Confidential?

This is a totally confidential relationship. No one will know that you are getting the help you need to be more confident. I am bound to confidentiality by a professional code of ethics and by the licensing law of being a Marriage & Family Therapist.

FYI – the root of the words “confidence” and “confidentiality” are the same – trust.

How Do You Know You Need a Life Coach?

When you want to move to the next level and something stops you – you need a coach.

When you have all the skills, but you’re not advancing – you need a coach.

When you can’t think yourself out of your distress – you need a coach.

When you can’t seem to move out of your stress or anxiety – you need a coach.

When all the self-help books and self-help classes don’t help – you need a coach.

When you still feel stressed, anxious and/or depressed – you need a coach.

How Long Will Coaching Take?

We will move as fast as you are willing to work in session and between sessions.

There are a variety of possibilities in how to structure coaching; face to face in person or on Skype and/or phone to use the most effective combination of  EMDR,  EFT, and guided imagery. The frequency of contact, and the nature and difficulty of the work to be done are significant factors.

Guided imagery recordings are a powerful way to continue to help you change your mind, to tap into your strengths and emotional/psychological resources in between coaching sessions.

What is the difference between coaching and psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy seeks to bring about change by concentrating on the reasons for your behavior  in your past experiences. It often focuses on some dysfunction, either in your current life or the dysfunction in your history.

Most psychotherapy theories believe that insight into your behavior will automatically lead to behavioral changes. Psychotherapy is best when it is conducted in person, so that uncomfortable feelings can be adequately addressed.

Coaching focuses on your strengths and your ability to make changes in the present. It is focused on the outcome that you want. It spotlights both how you think about the issues and it deals with feelings, which often drive behavior. Coaching assumes that given the right set of tools, you are much more capable of changing your behavior than you thought. Coaching helps you acquire the tools – tools that you take with you after coaching is completed.

Coaching tends to accomplish your goals in a much shorter time, although psychotherapy can also be “brief therapy” these days. Coaching holds you accountable for taking specific actions to create the results you want.

Coaching is done face to face, by phone or webcam.
